Naming & Baby Christening at AGCC

Welcoming a new baby is a joyful occasion, and we are honored to celebrate this special moment with you and your family. Below are important guidelines to help you prepare for your child’s naming and christening in line with our church’s tradition and spiritual values.

When is Baby Christening Done?

Baby christening (naming ceremony) is typically held on or after the 7th day following the birth of the child. This aligns with biblical practice and our church customs.

Steps to Follow

1. Notify the Church Early

As soon as the baby is born, kindly notify the church administration. This is essential for:

  • Scheduling the christening date.

  • Coordinating with church leadership.

  • Allowing sufficient time for proper planning.

2. Planning the Program

In consultation with the family, the church will assist in planning and designing the flow of the naming/christening program. You may:

  • Suggest family participation (e.g. special songs, scripture reading, testimony).

  • Share your preferred baby names with the Pastor ahead of time.

3. Who Conducts the Christening?

The Pastor in Charge of the church will officiate the naming ceremony. In some cases, this role may be delegated to another ordained minister within the church.

What to Expect During the Ceremony

  • Opening prayer and praise.

  • Reading of relevant Scriptures.

  • Exhortation from the Word of God.

  • Naming and prophetic declarations over the child.

  • Prayer for the baby and parents.

  • Collection of First Offering for the child.

  • Church announcement and blessings.

Additional Notes

  • Kindly inform the church if you are inviting external guests or ministers.

  • Photos and videos can be taken during the ceremony with minimal disruption.
